A High-Quality Education at Austria's Long-Established Universities
In many academic fields, Austrian universities offer Bachelor's and Master's programmes in an integrated form. This structure allows students to pursue their academic career in a more planned and uninterrupted way. Austria also offers the possibility of entering a doctoral programme without an entrance exam, provided certain conditions are met.
With the new education system introduced in Austria in recent years, the distinction between Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral programmes has gradually become clearer. For students who continue or complete their studies abroad under this model, the system offers a significant advantage in terms of international recognition and academic compatibility.
Language of Instruction and Academic System
The main language of instruction at Austrian universities is German. Students who do not yet have sufficient German can attend the German language courses recommended by the university that has admitted them and then go on to their degree. In this way, they can reach the required language level before starting the academic programme.
Instead of a fixed year-group system, Austrian universities use a course-credit and semester system. At the start of each semester, students choose the courses they wish to take, which lets them plan their studies more flexibly.
The academic calendar is as follows:
- Winter semester: October – January
- Summer semester: March – June
