The Netherlands is one of the countries offering the largest number of English-taught Master's programmes in Europe. Around 94% of the population can speak English, which makes both academic and everyday life much easier for international students. Thanks to its high-quality education, strong academic infrastructure and high standard of living, the Netherlands is home to some of Europe's most prestigious universities.
As with Bachelor's programmes, applications for Master's programmes in the Netherlands are made through the central application system Studielink. After the initial application on Studielink, it is forwarded to the universities concerned, and the process is completed in each university's own application system. At this stage it is essential to submit all required documents completely and correctly.
The visa process is mostly handled by the universities. The university submits the visa application on the basis of the documents the student has sent, and in many cases the visa documents are delivered by courier, without the student needing to visit the consulate in person.
For accommodation, universities reserve a certain number of places for international students in partner residences. However, as these places are limited, completing your housing application as early as possible is a real advantage.
While Master's programmes in many European countries usually last 1 year, in the Netherlands they are often designed to take 2 years. This gives students more in-depth academic training and more opportunities for practical work.
