
Many students are unsure what the difference between the GMAT and the GRE actually is. Both exams have verbal (English) and quantitative sections – so where does the difference lie?
The GMAT is used mainly by schools offering a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and other business programmes, whereas the GRE is accepted by universities across all other fields.
GRE exam content:
The GRE takes 3 hours 45 minutes in total and is accepted by almost all Master's programmes. The GRE costs US$195 and consists of the following sections:

GMAT exam content:
The GMAT takes 3 hours 30 minutes. It is designed specifically for business school applicants. The GMAT costs US$250 and consists of the following sections:
- Analytical Writing
- Integrated Reasoning
- Quantitative Reasoning
- Verbal Reasoning
